Hello, this is my very first post on Word Press and as such, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Bob Jackson. I am a registered professional engineer and have been practicing engineering for over forty years. I have seen tremendous changes in the way we train our scientific and engineering students and not all of those changes for the better. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, we are definitely losing the battle.
I will be using this space to discuss topics such as 1.) Education in Engineering, 2.) Graduating students entering the field of engineering, 3.) Competition from “abroad”, 4.) Related subjects in design, reliability, quality and other issues relative to engineering and manufacturing. I have been concerned for quite some time about the preparedness of graduating seniors entering the scientific and engineering fields AND the number of students entering the technical areas. Relative to China, India and Russia, our numbers are pitiful. In addition to this, our country has lost a significant “base” of technical talent which seems to be completely ignored by the media, politicians and the public in general. This is very sad. We are going to take a look over the weeks to discuss the future and what might be done to “stem the tide” in this ever-changing world.

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this blog.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between usability and appearance.

First of all I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I have had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes are lost simply just trying
to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips?

Hello Neal. I struggle with writing and from what I hear, it’s not that infrequent for most writers. If you read my posts, you know I have directed mission in mind. I don’t do politics, Hollywood, Social Media, just STEM subjects. That’s what I know and for the most part what I write about. I keep a log book of subjects that might be of interest to my readers; then gather information and pictures, then start writing. I never publish without letting six or eight hours go by. I go back and edit and read again. It’s really a process but the log book is the key for me. Thank you so much for your very kind comment and I certainly do hope you come for other visits. Take care. I would recommend the following:

Hello Browning, Actually Word Press supplied the theme but they post online tens of templates. I chose the template, the colors, the font, and the font size. The rest is history. Hello Maximum. It does take time. I have been blogging since 2007, all through WordPress which I highly recommend to you. Here are my recomendations:
1.) Chose subject matter that interest you, in other words, write for yourself and you will attract people of like-mind.
2.) Choose Word Press as a host. They do a great job.
3.) Read constantly. You will not be a good blogger unless you read material that you wish to write about.
4.) START. You will not improve if you never write.
5.) Have a good ( if not great ) proof-reader.

Hello Pure Nitro. I run an engineering consulting business and post about 4 times per month. Sometimes more frequently but about once per week is all I can spend time-wise. I DEFINITELY recommend you jumping in and giving it a try. I also recommend Word Press. They have marvelous support and provide tens of free templates and great templates for a very minimal price. I concentrate on STEM subjects and really never run out of things to write about. You will find that to be the case also. It takes time to develop a following but you certainly can do it. The very best.

Hello Saraburi. I post through Word Press but all link with Tumblr, LinkedIn, Path, and Stumbleuponit. I don’t do Facebook. My subjects are STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) so most people on Facebook don’t really get in to those subjects. Most of the comments I receive are quite nice and very complimentary. Some are not so nice but those are few and far between. I would definitely recommend Word Press to you AND start blogging. If you have read my posts, you know that the subject matter I choose is just about always STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). I am an engineer and know about those subjects. I don’t do politics, Hollywood, cars, etc–just STEM. Here are my recommendations to you:
1.) First, choose a subject area you are interested in knowing more about.
2.) Write for yourself. Others with like-mind will follow your post is YOU are interested in what you are saying.
3.) Do your research.
4.) Write, THEN let it sit for 12 to 24 hours.
5.) Rewrite.
6.) Make sure your sentence structure is proper and there and no misspelled words or typos.
7.) Preview
8.) Publish
9.) Check your “hits” on a daily basis.

First off I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question
that I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to know how
you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out.
I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally
wasted just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any ideas or tips? Appreciate it!

Hello Biroezmezter–Writing does NOT come easy for me–at all. I have to be in the right frame of mind to accomplish the best work. I generally find writing in the early morning hours is definitely best for me. I try to write every day, then pause for two or three hours, review, then post. For me, it is a great organizational tool for getting your thoughts on any one given subject together. I have been blogging for just about three years now and I can attest to the fact that it does get easier. I would recommend the following: 1.) pick a subject you are very interested in, 2.) do as much research using reliable sources as you can find and most importantly 3.) START. Don’t put it off. Write, re-write, re-write until you get what you want. No magic–just work. Good luck. You will do fine.
